thomisid spider attacks an amazing Mythicomyiidae fly! From South Africa

Hi This photo was taken by Hannes MItchell on 25th June 2007 in Gauteng (?) - South Africa. The spider belongs to the Thomisidae family and could be a Thomisus / Misumena (it is a juvenile) grabbing a spectacular (and my first favourite family) Mythicomyiidae! |

Very sad to see that our favorite Mythicomyiidae got captured [looks like a Cephalodromia longirostris (Hesse)]. I see that the spider is sucking juices from the cervical region, which is where asilids also jab their victims. -Neal |
