Shaped like tribe Sophiini, but that is New World only. Minthoini?

Thanks a lot, John. It sure does look like the Mintho rufiventris I found in my backyard in Belgium, but that seems to be a European species (although there are other Mintho species in Africa according to this source: https://zookeys.pensoft.net/articles.php?id=6072). I am curious of someone can confirm if this is Mintho or suggest another genus.

It is not Mintho: the pattern on thorax has 4 vittae and the stalk to bend of median vein is lacking.

Thank you, Theo. Any suggestion for another genus?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
