Hi together,

is it possible to identify this member of the Sepsidae family more precisely? I estimate its size to be about 3 mm. Photographed on April 11, 2026, in a garden in southwestern Germany.

Greetings Siggi

Hi Siggi, it's not impossible, but more details are neccessary.
If you browse Pont, Maier (2002) The Sepsidae (Diptera) of Europe you'll get an impression of what is needed to identify Sepsis.
An extract of the original photo without too much environment could help to see bristles, pilosity and colours.
Greetings, Eric
