Tried to key this fly, but got lost... Is there anyone who could help me? Collected from a coastal area in southern Norway on March 28th.

There are three species in North America and three species in northern Europe, including the holarctic species Egle ciliata. I have descriptions of the North American species but not the other two European species. The head of Egle ciliata in pure lateral view should show Length 0.8 to 1.0 times height. Palps 0.6 to 0.7 times head height with apical club 2/3 width of postpedicel. Mentum 0.7 to 0.8 times head height. I do not have these ratios for the other two European species. The other two American species have lower ratios for all four measurements. Edited by John Carr on 02-04-2026 20:21 |
