I think this match quite good with Machimus cyanopus, however that species is not known from Norway.

Is it possible to tell?

Dear MorganA,

Nice find! This is indeed a Machimus, but part of a complex of species only identifiable by examining male terminalia. The only species known from Northern Europe however, is Machimus intermedius. I've published about the species new for the Netherlands here: https://www.resea.../366964532 It includes an English summary which is quite extensive.
Currently I'm part of a group of several authors revising this species-group in Europe. If you would publish this record I'd implore you not to use the name cyanops. And if possible, catch a male and confirm it is M. intermedius!

Kind regards,
Elias

Thank you, Elias!

Interesting article!

So there is a few records of the species name M. setibarbus from Norway, which I then guess is actually M. intermedius.

I was using the key https://www.robberflies.info/keyger/htmle/keymachimus.html#1
Are you saying that the face beard character in couplet 5 is not a good character for the species named setibarbus?

I will wait recording it and hopefully catch a male next season, better to be certain!
