Hi,

yesterday I took a few pictures of a small greenish fly with a metallic tinge. I would suspect, that it is a male of Dolichopus sp.. Is that correct and/or is it possible to determine the species from the pictures?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Munich (-West), shrub leaf, 16.06.2024, app. 5 mm

Greetings, Uli

Hercostomus nigriplantis? Note the enlarged mid fifth tarsomere.

Hi John,

thank you very much for the determination. Do you think that could go without a cf.?

I don't have the experience for this kind of determination, but the three criteria listed in the "Grichanov Checklist & keys" seem to be met ("Mid basitarsus without ventral setae; scutellum bare dorsally; 5th segment of midtarsus slightly dilated;").

Greetings, Uli

The key by Grichanov is for Europe north of Germany. I do not know if there are any similar species in Bavaria.

Hi John,

I don't know either, obviously. But thanks for the additional info, I will leave it at Hercostomus cf. nigriplantis.

Thank you and greetings, Uli
