Next agonizing fly: it looks very much like a Polietes, but Gregor et al state that the male's fronto-orbital plate should touch! Maybe it's inside a tolerance?

To quote Steven Falk on his P. lardarius album on flickr " Males have the eyes narrowly separated on top of the head whereas in females, the frons is about one-third the head width".
