18 May 2013, along the Rewa River, Rupununi River system, Guyana. In the rain forest as the rainy season was beginning.

I think this is Thecomyia (Sciomyzidae)

Try Marinoni,Steyskal & Knutson, 2003, Zootaxa 191: 1-36?

Thank-you Paul and Mark. Searching on Sciomyzidae and Thecomyia I found this fly IDd as Sciomyzidae (the location was French Guiana):

The line drawing Thecomyia on page 1017 of Manual of Central American Diptera vol 2 is a very good likeness for all of these
