Hello all, Would it be too hasty to call this fly Heleomyza captiosa/serrata ? There were many of them in a cave at Ramioul, Belgium. Today September 8th. Most of them, by the way, had been killed by a fungus. Thanks in advance for your help Philippe Philippe moniotte attached the following image: [55.77Kb] A beautiful hypothesis can be slain by an ugly fact. |

First tarsomere of hin leg is very short. I'm not sure which taxon it is ... It could be also Scoliocentra brachypterna (Lw). Maybe do you have another pic with lateral view ? Andrzej dr. A. J. Woznica, Institute of Environmental Biology, Wroclaw University of Environmental & Life Sciences |

Hello Andrzej, No I could not get any other picture, the fly was on the ceiling of the cave, and not really accessible from where we stood. I have pictures of some other specimen, almost completely destroyed by a fungus, by the way. Thanks for commenting Philippe Edited by Philippe moniotte on 10-09-2012 17:21 A beautiful hypothesis can be slain by an ugly fact. |

"Maybe" I can identify the specimen to the species level by a head capsule seen laterally ... Andrzej
