Frown Hi everyone, I would be much appreciated if you could cast your knowledgeable minds over pictures of this mysterious fly. I think it is an empid but I have never seen one with the kidney-shaped antennae that it has!

Its CUP cell is relatively short and does not extend to the wing margin like Athericidae pictures in the books i'm reading.

Compare with Gloma fuscipennis of the Empididae (or Brachystomatidae in more modern classifications).

I cannot see the reniform antennae clearly in these picture, but if the third segment is clearly twice as high as the second segment, then it certainly is Gloma fuscipennis. Everything else fits quite nicely.

Thanks a million guys. Sorry Paul the antennae are hard to make out from the photo i posted but I assure you they are reniform. It was found in a plantation canopy of sitka and norweigen spruce in Ireland.
