Dear Michael,

This is certainly not X. ornatus, and might be X. tenellus, but one cannot be entirely sure unless you have a male at hand that you can examine more closely.

A relevant paper for you might be Chandler & Negrobov (2008). The British species of Xanthochlorus Loew, 1857 (Diptera, Dolichopodidae), with description of two new species. Dipterists Digest 15: 29-40.

Cheers,
Marc

Thank you for the information, Marc. If I see this correct, there are only these two species in germany. So I will label the picture cf. tenellus.

Dear Michael,

You are right. See also Pollet, M. (2007) Dolichopodidae. In: Pape, T. (Ed.). Fauna Europaea: Diptera Brachycera. Fauna Europaea, Version 1.3. Available at http://www.fauneur.org [Accessed on April 1, 2011] for the most recent published European distribution data). Updates of this website are in preparation.

Cheers,
Marc

Does someone have a pdf of this paper? Please?
Paul
