Hello! I'm not even sure about the family (Keroplatidae?), this 5 mm midge belongs to. In a spider web in our garden (northwest Germany). On the first look you may get fooled by thinking it is Macrocera (Keroplatidae), but have a closer look at wing veins..... It is a male Trichoceridae. so long, xylo |

I must admit, that on first glance "on location" I also thought it was one of the momentarily ubiquitous Trichocera (*). But then on the PC it looked so - strange... (and had too short antennae for a Macrocera). But that may be due to the unnormal wing posture in the spider's web. This is a male of Trichocera annulata Meigen, 1818 - rather common species and easily distinguished by the banded abdomen. Andrius |
