Where is it from?
(Actually, colon is the only species of Terelliini, which sometimes has black femora)

Thanks Dr. Valery,

It is form Turkey. Actually Centaurea behen is confusing me. I have many different variation of T. colon. sometimes it's hard to identification this species because of its wide variation. Especially colon/luteola group need a revision maybe with molecular data.

Yes, you are right. It is apparently more confusing, say, in Morocco and Spain.
Concerning C. behen: it is even more confusing, because it is infested by at least three different Terellia: sp. nr. virens in Israel, freidbergi in NW Iran and, as you say, cf. colon in Turkey. I do not know by far, which molecular method and gene(s) could be sensitive enough for colon-luteola populations. Turkey may be a centrre of Centaurea diversity, but the recent studies of associated tephritids were absolutely inadequate. On the other hand, foreigners with nets are criminals in Turkey, so hardly we shall have an ansewer soon...

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation.

This is the different Terellia sp which is almost entirely black legs. In fact, probably Terellia colon, but I'm not sure. Unfortunately I have just 5 male samples, no female.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
