Dear all,

are those larvae, larvae of Stratiomyidae flies?
Found in Lower Saxony, Germany, 15.09.2019 sandy area. They were more than 5cm long, Most of them under water but some crawling outside.
Thanks in advance.

Best,
Alex

Can you somehow rule out S. longicornis?
Best wishes,
Alex

The numerous small White dorsal spots occur in both singularior and longicornis but the anal segment is too long for longicornis. The relatieve small and long anal segment is typical for singularior.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
