Pictures taken near Szeged, S. Hungary, on 04.05.2012. I think it a a male of Stratiomys singularior. Is this correct? Thanks for any comments in advance! Henrik piros attached the following image: [181.32Kb] |

I realized now that the eyes are hairy! Would that make this a male of S. longicornis? |

S. longicornis is rather bee-like and has no white markings at the abdomen (see http://diptera.in...pid=148863). The gallery photo of the S. singularior male (http://www.dipter...to_id=1531) shows hairy eyes, too. So why not this species? I am no expert, however... Regards, Sundew |

Thanks a lot for your answer! Of course, S. singularior was my candidate too, but I've read somewhere (I don't remember where) that southern populations of S. longicornis may have whitish spots on abdomen, that's why I've become hesitant... Best regards, Henrik P. S.: Would you also be able to have a look at this fly: http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=53884 |
