Hi, is this a Scatella found on a small stream in Vienna? Next to another Ephydrid (--> Hydrellia) which will get a separate ID request Cheers, Lorin Edited by Carnifex on 25-10-2022 13:29 Cheers, Lorin Font Color All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated. My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated. |

Yes, this is Scatella lacustris (formerly known as tenuicosta)

Thank you Tony, then I would guess these are all the same species (found at the same spot within 30 min). I just read that the shape of spot 3 is diagnostic (which can't be seen on the upper specimen) Edited by Carnifex on 25-10-2022 13:30 Cheers, Lorin Font Color All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated. I would say that the upper one (perched on an algal mountain) is lacustris, but the last one is browner and appears to have quite strong bristles around the mouth-edge, which suggests it's probably S. stagnalis.
