Rivellia are very common here, in the North of Portugal. I think this could be R. syngenesiae, but I don't know how R. hispanica looks like. The photos show a specimen feeding on bird droppings.

I don't know R. hispanica either, but the small clear marking in the apical wing spot is rather uncommon in R. syngenesiae. Whether that would be a difference with syngenesiae, I don't know.

You can send it along with the Syrphidae. I will try to get it to a specialist here if you want.

Thank you Paul. I checked other photos from different specimens and this one is the only one with that clear marking on the wing.
Thank you too Andre. Unfortunately I didn't collect this specimen. I'll try to find more with this kind of wing pattern and it would be very nice to have an ID.Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
