Thanks a lot for help! Is it possible to get to species if I look for more details? In Sweden three species of this genus is recorder: ornata, boletina and picta.

I suppose it is P. ornata because of clear wings and all of the antennae dark brown.

It looks like a female (ornata) that's gone dark. It's the hind tarsus that looks like a female and lightening the images the pattern is there on the abdomen. But how did it get that colour? Can you check the eyes are separated, and do you have any pictures of the live fly by any chance

Yes, the eyes are separated. It was a rainy day and I think that the fly was wet already when I caught it, and than probably to much ethylacetat in the tin I put it inn didnĀ“t make it better. But under the magnifier I can see a clearpattern - grey dudted first tergite, black second tergit, black in the middle of third tergite etc.

Thanks again for good help!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
