Hi Pentti,

strange looking but the presutural stripe and black basicosta indicates a male Pollenia vagabunda. Simply check tibia 2 for one ad and tibia one for 2 pv. The abdomen is what is strange but it has a bluish shimmer.

Best wishes,
John

Hi Pentti,

honestly, the genitalia photos are small and very shiny. I cannot see details very well. It will be easier for you to look at the middle tibia for one ad. If so, then P. vagabunda male.

Best wishes,
John

Hi Pentti,

very strange specimen. it doesn't agree with vagabunda. I also have trouble matching it to labialis. you can always send it to me for examination, then i can send it back. Otherwise, i'll have to request some more photos. I will try to work with what you have posted for now. I'll revisit this tomorrow. I have a sinus infection and i'd like to relax a bit this evening. I'm having trouble focusing.

perhaps you could add better photos of the cerci/surstyli and of the aedeagus.

Best wishes,
John

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
