Hi, I guess this is either Otitis guttata or O. centralis. Can the fly be IDed? April, Vienna. I'd say Otites centralis, but prefer to study genitalia in every case of centralis/guttata

It is a female but I have the specimen. Do you need a certain feature to confirm the initial suggestion?

In fact, both occur there in Hungary, Austria, and neighbouring countries, differing by the wing pattern slightly (and this may overlap), but I have no experience enough to ID with 100% certainty (we have only one of them here and rarely occurring). Male surstyli and female spermathecae are the only solid characters, but not visible on photos. Val |

I did a literature search but I couldn't find any access to descriptions on how to distinguish the two species. Do you have any publications? Would be a new species to the state of Vienna

Thanks Val, that supports indeed O. centralis. I will also measure the wing (although there is a typo in the description: 2,8mm - 1,0 mm doesn't make sense...)
