I have been finding a few of these recently - seems to be a woodland species? But even placing to family seems troublesome

Looks to be an Otites (Ulidiidae), in spite of its evergreen color. It is believed to be O. guttata Mg., 1830, the only species occurring in UK; furtheremore, it occurs in oak woods at middle-spring.

PS. Sorry, I have IDed it from its head alone. The second photo showed up after I have ansewered. Indeed, it is O. guttata !

Hi Valery

many thanks for the very speedy reply.

I am rather lacking on literature and experience for Ulidiidae, that will explain why it was so problematic for me.
