Musca domestica (M) or Graphomya Sp.?

This fly looks very similar to Musca domestica but I wonder if it could be something different because it was busily feeding on nectar - new Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) blossoms in very diverse, mixed, grassland, 10m from a well wooded stream.

Size:- +/- 6-8mm

Many Thanks in advance.

Hello Jürgen,
I did consider Musca autumnalis but none of the male examples I looked at, both in the gallery and forum, had prominent black and white thorax banding like mine. Female examples were well banded but not males. Thorax bristles on mine also seem longer than M. autumnalis examples.

Another question:- Do Musca domestica feed on nectar?

Best Regards
Ray

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
