Hi flyforum,

I try to find what kind of specie this is.
Look's like Melieria omissa..

Or is it some other Melieria specie?, like M. crassipennis?
Can someone tell me the difference between these species?
Or is it not visible? Wink

place: Holland

Hi Robert,

You need to see the abdominal tergites in order to separate M. crassipennis from M. omissa, the first having dark bands at the posterior margin of the tergites. There seems to be a habitat difference between both species: M. omisse tends to occur in more brackish habitats, however the species may occur together!

Thank you very much John, for your reaction. Smile

Is Otitinae a subfamily from Ulidiinae ? I got a question about this and wonder if it is just a synonym or are these seperate species?

In my book 'De Europese families van muggen en vliegen' (2002), Otitinae is considered as a subfamily from Ulidiinae?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
