very nice photos. I like (and study) Bombyliidae but my knowledge is limited to that which exists in Germany. I am very familiar with H. morio. I cannot see a match other than morio for the species in the photo. Perhaps a current Bombyliidae expert can say otherwise. Meantime, I strive to reach an expert level with this family. I grow tired of the lack of data about certain Bombyliidae, thus I've decided to start collecting specimens for study. I'd like to examine, compare and contrast the problematic members of this family. Particularly Villa. I like Bombyliidae but there is a lack of devotion to this family. I suppose that the group has less ecological importance for study, so it is ignored. I have started collecting this year. I am hoping to contribute to the identification of this group in the near future. |

I know my Iberian Bombyliidae and I can assure you this is Hemipenthes morio, no shadow of doubt  Johnes, I am also a Bombyliidae lover  I also love Villa, which is a total nightmare here, with over 20 species, most of them in chaotic taxonomic state. No time for boredom That is why I love them  |

hola Piluca_Alvarez, I am happy to know that someone else loves Bombyliidae Spain has many wonderful creatures from many different groups including spiders. I'd like to photograph in Spain someday. 20 species of Villa is a nightmare indeed. If I remember Spanish correctly, I want to say "mucho trabajo." I like so many things about Bombyliidae. Even non-scientific stuff. Appearance is very cool. The wings are nice. They sometimes land on me and all of them snoop at subjects of photography. This year I had an Anthrax anthrax investigate me photographing a Philodromus spider. She landed on my shirt a few times. She is cute. Bombyliidae are great. I just love them. Villa are fun to watch.
