Hello, I run across this/these fly(ies) two days ago in our garden (northwest Germany) at my banana baits and at night at light. I'm almost sure, that both are the same individual. About 6 mm in length. Hello Juergen , With the four dorsocentrals with dark spots at their base probably Heleomyza sp. One would probably need collected material to identify the species, preferably a male. Kind regards, Ectemnius |

Not Heleomyza. Anterior orbital bristle is shorter than the posterior. It's a Gymnomus sp. If the abdomen is more grey than should be caesia species group, if not than a member of the spectabilis species-group... BTW I have never seen a Heleomyza species with such large dark dots at the base of dorsocentral bristles . dr. A. J. Thank you Ectemnius and Andrzej! It is not readily visible on the photos, but the abdomen seemed more gray, not orange. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
