Hello,

I found this fly inside an insect box today. The fly would not have got in from the outside, so it must have hatched somewhere inside. There was just some soil in the box. Size was less than one centimetre, maybe 7-8 cm? Is it possible to identify the species?

Greetings, Volker

Hello Volker, based on your nice photos I think it's a female of the Exorista rustica group.
EDIT:
No it isn't: 4 dc post! So I think it is the female E. larvarum.

Hi Eric,

many thanks for your assessment. I'm just wondering what the fly hatched from? There is no host to be found. I'll have another look at the insect box and the soil tomorrow.

Greetings, Volker
