Another Tachinidae, this one was seen September 3 2013 in Aalborg, North Jutland, Denmark. About 10 mm long. Sitting on Tanacetum vulgare. Best regards Line Sabroe attached the following image: [121.9Kb] Edited by Line Sabroe on 21-10-2013 11:41 Line |

Thanks Theo In Denmark there are only 2 Eumea species: mitis and linearicornis. Is it possible to tell the difference between the two? Line |

The differences are very subtle so it is unlikely that you will get better than Theo's' ID

Right. My gut feeling is mitis, but I cannot prove that (simply based on the colouration). Theo |

OK. Thanks, both of you. I'll give it one last try with some more pictures, and if that doesn't help, I'll have to settle for Eumea sp., right? First a close-up from the first photo in the thread. I think the facial ridge looks to be straight. Line Sabroe attached the following image: [175.36Kb] Line |

Head seen from a different angle - sorry about the grainy quality.

A view from straight above, to better show the back of the fly and the wings.
