Hello NakaRB & Renko,

Yes, most definitely a Desmometopa. The yellow haltere, the small post ocular strip, the absence of a shining black mark on the genae, the pale genae, the yellow metatarsi and the small black spot on the side of the thorax all point to a female Desmometopa varipalpis. Do you perchance have a photo which shows the colour of the palps?
The photo's are very nice! Would you let me use the upper one in a upcoming paper reporting this species new for the Netherlands?

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Unfortunately, I have only these photos, but you can use any of them in your paper.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
