black and red fly

Dear visitors,

Yesterday 30.4.07 I saw this quite big ( more than 13 mm)fly sitting on a leaf in the last sunshine in the eastern part of Austria.
But after the first photo shot it disappeared .
It was jetblack and bright red.
I have never seen such a fly before.
Can You please help me to identify.

Clitellaria ephippium (Stratiomyidae) female. Larva is found in Lasius fuliginosus nests. I don't know its status in Austria, but it is apparently extinct in Britain - now seen only in the wildest dreams of hallucinating dipterists. Sad Wow! Wow! and again Wow!

It was considered extinct in the Netherlands as well, but it has turned up over the past 10-15 years...

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
