C. plumosus is not usually so green.

Yeh, but i write so, cose a collect tommrow wery similar plumosus near Chernigiv (Ukraine) wery similar species is also some Chironomus balatonicus

So far I know from the descriptor of Ch. balatonicus, it is almost impossible to tell apart balatonicus from other species in the gruop by morphological characters. The descriptor used moleuclar methods to separate balanoticus from other species. Balatonicus if I understand correctly is usually larger and distinctly greener than pllumosus.

Yes it is. But if You will staring at balatonicus polytenne chromosome long time you /// could became an idiot as i/// or you my find small morphological differenceSmile

Is this mosquito Chironomus?

Place: central Ukraine, meadow near the little pond

Many of this mosquitoes was sitting on grass and flying.
