september, west Romania, into a forest, 1000m altitude Bibio pomonae or varipes? The photo of female pomonae in the gallery shows sharply contrasting red femora and black tibiae and pale posterior veins, like your fly. |

As for the other website, the male pomonae is totally OK. The pomonae in the ' wing' section given as pomonae is clearly a mistake, it is from the picture previously given as ' varipes', which might actually be a female johannis. General warning: Alle females of the johannis - lanigerus group have red femora as well as tibiae. In pomonae, the tibiae are black (and the wing venation is different). Theo |
