I'm guessing this is some sort of calliphorid, but I'm not entirely sure. Any help with the ID would be much appreciated. This fly was photographed on 11/05/2021 in the margin of a commercial strawberry field in Kent, UK.

Many thanks,
Dylan

Hi Dylan, I'm quite sure it's a male Bellardia. With only one pv bristle on the fore tibia and the long hairs on tergite 4 it's probably a B. viarum.

Greetings, Eric

Hi Eric, that's great. Thank you very much for the help with the ID! I've never seen a Bellardia sp. before, so this is a new one for me.

All the best,
Dylan

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
