I found this one in the Gorges de Tavignano in Corsica on 4/9/2014

The only species with black legs and black tergites I can find are northern species (Xylota suecica, Chalcosyrpus nigripes)

Maybe melanistic?
Who can help?

My first impression was Chalcosyrphus piger (associated with Pinus spp.). I suposse it is melanistic form, but I can't be sure without specimen and I have never seen such form in Ch. piger. If it is not C.piger then we don't have any other similar species in Europe.

Regards,
Lukasz

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
