Hi,
This Eristalis I saw in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, about three weeks ago. Can E. similis be confirmed?
Many thanks, Sundew

Hi, Sundew! I have very little experience in this, but if I would have been asked to put a name to that Hoverfly, I would have said it is Eristalis similis. The stigma fits to perfection and the general features seem to match too.

But wait for the opinion of an expert Wink

I see you also point out to the pterostigma that led me to my species guess. Many thanks to both of you!

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
