France, Dordogne. Woodland, limestone soil. 6th August 2013 alt. 140m. Quercus foliage. Size ~7mm I think this is Hyperaea which is in Minthoini (Tachinidae). Note the posterior extension to the labella. Steve sd attached the following image: [149.1Kb] Edited by sd on 03-01-2022 19:12 |

Yeap, genus is OK. Species are very similar, but as I remember have a distinct distribution. That might help. Theo |

Many thanks, Theo. Mesnil in Lindner (p1171) states H. femoralis is the most regularly found and widely distributed species. However, Using Cerretti's key this specimen seems to be H. sanguinea which has a narrower distribution (Italy but not France?). Though both species do seem to be variable and difficult to distinguish. Also, Cerretti's key (I Tachinidi Della Fauna Italiana volI p406) seems to differ to that of Mesnil (but my weak knowledge of German combined with Google Translate might be the problem ) Steve Edited by sd on 04-11-2013 18:54 |

I now have a pdf of Herting's 1977 paper from which Cerretti's key is based. http://www.biodiv...5/mode/1up Help with correct translation would be very appreciated Steve [edit 24/10/14: update of webpage] Edited by sd on 24-10-2014 13:04 |
