Anthomyiidae_Hydrophoria sp.(male) is correct? Region Malá Fatra Terchová about 600 m above sea level. Thank you very much for your help. I made a photo of 20.05.2011.

Hydrophoria diabata/lancifer. (The epandrium seems long and narrow, but I think you would need a specimen to be sure. Opinions?) |

Thank you for trying! I don't think Fero has the specimen, so I was speculating idly. I have your Plate 32, and it occurred to me that this one might have had a chance of turning out to be H. diabata given better evidence. At least the st5 processes look quite beefy! But without the specimen... |

A specimen is the dead body of the fly, which can be examined with a microscope. You need to catch the fly, preserve it in alcohol and send it to an expert. With only a photograph it is often impossible to know the exact species. |
