This fly confuses me. M1 bends up sharply, so it could be Tachinidae or Calliphoridae or Sarcophagidae, but it looks not like a typical fly of any of these families. Medium size, say 8 mm. Tree trunk near parking lot in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. Clues to (partial) ID warmly welcome!

I agree. It looks very much like Phyto melanocephala.

A new locality (occurs mainly along our main rivers).

Cor, can you please provide a date ?

Gerard Pennards came to the same ID, so I think it's quite safe.

Date: 21 May 2009. Coordinates: X 119.207, Y 476.766

Today another specimen, slightly different. There is a blind vein on DM-Cu, into dm - is this random variation? Also, veins are brow-reddish, I didn't notice that in my other photographs.
Stalked top cel less obvious in previous photograph.

Same species nonetheless?

coordinates: X 118.001, Y 477.414
