Hello,

I saw several of this Ephydridae walking on the water of ponds in a farm in southern France in last December.
French specialist suggest Coenia, maybe palustris, but this taxa seems not well known in France.

Thank you for your advice

I don't know beyond subfamily Ephydrinae but I doubt Coenia s. str. Mathis (1975) distinguished Coenia with three pairs of dorsocentrals and no humeral bristles from Paracoenia with four pairs of dorsocentrals and well developed humeral bristles.

If I am interpreting the slightly fuzzy characters correctly, this looks more like Paracoenia fumosa
