Hello List,

This small (2-3 mm) chironomid is rather conspicuously marked. Is it unrealistic to hope for at least a genus ? I have noticed that there are very few pictures of chironomidae in the gallery, so I guess they are tricky...
Heron, Belgium, October 9th. Attracted by light.

Not only spelt it wrong, but got the identification wrong too! (Well - I was only "fairly" sure). This is Psectrotanypus varius.

This is a near twin to the nearctic Psectrotanypus dyari.
