Hello,

This larva was found in a water cup for birds, outside :

Jeremie Lemarie : France : Sainte Radégonde des noyers : 85450 : 28/07/2010
Altitude : 0-7 m - Taille : 5 mm mesuré
Réf. : 60566

On our French forum, this picture rose many comments, but nothing definitive.

First, one of us thought this was a paedogenetic larva (with all similar elements in the body).

On the other hand, the larva looks like some Ceratopogonidae larva we saw on this forum recently. But there is no report of paedogenesis in the family.

What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Ceratopogonidae and the habitus and habitat seems typical for Dasyhelea. Try to check the anal pseudopod (s) for black hooks, if present then Dasyhelea, if not, some other Ceratopogonidae genus. But the habitat is very typical for Dasyhelea.

Hello,

Thanks for your comments. Sadly, this is the only picture.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
