 Big and beautiful

Hi, I found these very big (> 3 cm) and beautiful Asilids in Canary Islands, Fuerteventura (Costa Calma) in the end of August, beginning of September 2007, but never in springtime. Weinberg & Baez (1992) cited only Promachus consanguineus from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Therefore the species isn't endemic. In addition the species should be distributed in Central Asia as well (Lehr, 1988). There are 5 endemic Promachus species on the other islands and number 6 from Hierro isn't described yet.
