I photographed this small (around 5-6mm) fly in the Still bay area of South Africa on 23/03/2016. Unfortunately I had just started the stack of the second photo when it scooted off. Having had a good look at the wing venation though the lens at that time I can report that the median vein had an acute bend anteriorly - closing the sub-apical cell - if this helps. Is it possible to know the family from the photo? Compare Musca sorbens (four stripes with central pair far apart). There might be several similar species in Africa. |
