Hi,
I found this rather white faced sarcophagid fly last August on Angelica sylvestris on wet meadows in Hamburg.
It looks somewhat similar to Brachycoma devia. But I couldn't really match the bristles and also this bright white face...
Is it possible to get a better ID for this guy?
Regards,
Jan

It is a Macronychia sp.
Very difficult genus....

Those match indeed good. Thanks a lot!
I dug even deeper and found this guy from August 2014. That's also Macronychia I guess?
Regards,
Jan

Yes, you should have posted that directly !

Female Macronychia dolini or striginervis, you can very nicely see the ovipositor.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
