2013-08-04, Degeberga Sweden, ca 5 mm I know Siphona females are difficult(impossible) ... Edit: Male ! The palp of this one doesn´t really fit geniculata . Edit: Wasn´t aware geniculata in Andersen´s key would be cristata. skrylten attached the following image: [117Kb] Edited by skrylten on 09-09-2013 07:19 |

You wrote female, but image 5 looks male to me. (I'm not an expert on sexing Cyclorrhapha.) |

Yeah, you have to be careful to correct Andersen's key with regard to Siphona urbana/geniculata/cristata. While Andersen's treatment was strictly correct, Tschorsnig, Herting & O'Hara successfully petitioned for the name to be retained due to common usage. S. geniculata was conserved by the replacement of the lectotype with a neotype. See ICZN case 3084 & opinion 1975 Andersen's urbana = current geniculata Andersen's geniculata = current cristata Edited by ChrisR on 09-09-2013 09:40 Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |
