Hello!

Is this Tanyptera atrata for sure, or are there similar species? Very impressing animal, about 30 mm with ovipositor! At forest border on beech stem (northwest Germany). Many (larger) pictures here: http://insektenfo...adid=41212

Jürgen,

Yep, T.atrata. The lookalike T.nigricornis has black trochanters. This specimen has orange ones.
(she is full with eggs)
Best regards,
Andre

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
