The second pic is female aurulans.

The last pic seems to be obesa, the feature for the crown on thorax is only valid for males !!

Hi Theo.
Thank you very much.
It is very strange, I made 41 pics over 14 minutes and to my knowledge, it is the same fly on all. When looking from above, it was black with no markings visible, looking from behind, I could se the crown on thorax, and the black abdomen turned like pic3.
It demonstrate one of the problems in just taking pictures and not catching the fly.
Thanks again!

Żou might be right that it is all the same specimen.
Dusting can be seen best very oblique from behind. Like your fig. 4. Maybe I misjudged it due to this very oblique angle.

In any case, fig 2 is aurulans beyond reasonable doubt.

And it is very fine that ID for fig 2 is beyond any doubt.

It“s the first time I see P.aurulans female.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
