Hi,

I will send a series of Ephydridae with a hope to find out the genus for further studies. This one has a label Ephydra sp. We should have only three species here in Finland macellaria, riparia and scholtzi. E.macellaria should have yellow legs, so it's out. E.scholtzi should have ac before sutura in two rows and riparia in four irregular rows (based on Bei-Bienko) I would quess this is riparia ? July 17. 2005 from a light trap Helsinki, Finland.

Can't see how many lateroclinate fr-or setae. If 2 - then Setacera sp. Male. Males are determinable by genitalia.

Two bristles, so Setacera sp. (it was Ephydra in Bei-Bienko) After I have more practice with dissecting genitalia with larger flies I will start with small ones like this. Just now it's my only one in this genus so I will wait. Two choices: aurata or micans. We will see Smile Thank You Smile

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
