Hi,

today I took a few pictures of a tiny and hairy fly in our garden and I think it might belong to the family Psychodidae. From looking at the pictures of the family members here, I would make a wild guess that it could be something like Pneumia sp.. Can that be confirmed/excluded from the attached image?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Garden in Munich (-West), Window sill, 09.05.2024, app. 3-4 mm

Psychodidae is correct, the species is a Philosepedon. The most common of the genus is P.humeralis but I don't know if that is the only candidate in your region. (P.perdecorum can be excluded.)

Hi weia!

Thank you for the determination. Genus is already more than I hoped for Smile.

Greetings, Uli

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
