Hello everyone,
I photographed this fly on September 30, 2023 in southwest Germany in the Black Forest on a damp meadow. I estimate their size to be 3 to 4 mm. I think it belongs to the family Lonchopteridae; can you say more about that?

Thanks and regards,
Siggi

Hello Siggi,

could be a male of Lonchoptera lutea but to be sure it is necessary to see full chaetotaxy of fore and mid legs.

schönes Wochenende

gruß Mats

Hello Mats,

thank you very much, but I don't have any better pictures. Then I will label the pictures with “Lonchoptera cf. lutea”.

Grüße aus Staufen,
Siggi

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
