What a lovely fly. I'd bet it is Platystomatidae.

Thank you. It's a very attractive fly indeed. My father took this picture at a brakish water swamp. I cannot get the second picture uploaded, but it's just a slightly more lateral view. |

Platystomatidae subfamily Scholastinae. Almost certainly a Scholastes.

The clear apical tip to the wing and lack of supra-alar seta makes this Scholastes cinctus. Beautiful pic!
